
Saralee Terry Woods is the president of BookMan/BookWoman - Nashville's bookstore. She is an avid reader who frequently reviews books for television, radio, magazines and newspapers. Her bookstore, BookMan/BookWoman, has been consistently voted The Best Used Bookstore by the Nashville Scene and by Nashville Woman. She and her husband, Larry Woods, are regulars on WTVF's television show Talk of the Town. They frequently appear on television programs such as Plus Side of Nashville, Open Line and Morning Edition. Saralee and Larry have been featured on nationally syndicated radio shows and they enjoy speaking to civic groups and organizations about books.
A passionate advocate for the importance of learning to read, Saralee is a Reading Ranger for Book'Em and reads weekly to children who participate in the local Headstart program.
Tennessee first lady Andrea Conte selected Saralee to be the chair of the first Luncheon on the Lawn to raise money for Tennessee's executive residence, home to eight of Tennessee's governors. Saralee serves on the boards of the YWCA of Middle Tennessee, the Hillsboro Village Merchants Association and is the incoming chair of the board of directors for the Center for Nonprofit Management.
While Saralee was president of CABLE, the largest and most diverse networking organization in Nashville, she led the process to incorporate CABLE as a 501c3 organization and created the CABLE Foundation. She is also a member of the Nashville Women's Breakfast Club, the Women's National Booksellers Association, the Breakfast Club of Nashville and the Nashville Women's Political Caucus.
As a community leader, Saralee has chaired the ATHENA Awards Program, chaired the Salute to Excellence Awards Program for the Nashville Center for Nonprofit Management and served on the steering committee for the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. She is a leader of the Women's Forum at Woodmont Hills Family of God and a graduate of Leadership Nashville.
Her leadership in civic issues, especially those concerning women, reading and small businesses, has brought her recognition not only in her community, but also nationwide. She has been recognized by CABLE twice with two of its highest awards, the Spirit of Leadership Award and the Promote Women Award, and was a finalist for the National Association of Women Business Owners Small Business Award. Both the Nashville Womens Breakfast Club and CABLE have chosen Saralee as their nominee for the prestigious ATHENA Award. The Sales and Marketing Executives of America honored Saralee with its Distinguished Sales and Marketing Award.
In addition to her civic leadership and community activism, Saralee is also an author, whose book, Executive Temping - A Guide for Professionals, published by John Wiley & Sons, has been highly praised by BookPage, Black Enterprise Magazine, Kiplinger and the Tennessean. Her articles about employment and the staffing industry have been published in National Business Employment Weekly, a Wall Street Journal publication.
Saralee has a master's degree in planning from the University of Tennessee and she is a graduate of the Tennessee Government Executive Institute. Her heritage is deeply entwined in Tennessee political roots, having grown up in a politically active family which included her father, the late George A. Terry, who served as a state representative and state senator in Tennessee for many years.
Saralee is married to Larry Woods and is stepmother to Rachel, Allen and Sarah Woods. She has two grandsons.
